Chants and Songs

I found this poem over 15 years ago and did not write down the source. It is from the Algonquian people of the northeast woodlands. I use their words with deep respect and appreciation. These words inspired me to create a melody which I often sing while performing my stories and use in rituals. The first line of this poem is where I got the title of my specialty, We Are The Stars That Sing: The Story of the Universe.

Song of the Stars (Algonquian)

We are the stars that sing, we sing with our light. We are the birds of fire, we fly over the sky. Our light is our voice. Our light is a voice. We make a road for the spirit to pass over. We make a road for the spirit to pass over.

The following is by Ronnie Polansky and Mary Ellen Hill

We All Contain a Spark!

CHORUS: We all, we all, we all contain a spark of the Universe. We all, we all, we all contain a spark!

VERSES:

1) This story is very, very old and now it's something we all can know.
That out of a spark much smaller than a seed mysteriously came everything we need.

2) The Universe for billions of years made galaxies and stars so clear.
Then out of the hearts of the stars we see, came all the elements for you and me.

3) Five billion years ago in our home galaxy came a sight so beautiful for all to see.
Our radiant day star, the Sun was born that brought a light to keep all warm.

4) Swirling around for millions of years were bits of gas, rock and dust so near.
Then all settled down into a sun family bringing nine planets and many moons to see.

5) After baby Earth settled down she brought forth some solid ground.
For millions of years the rain did fall creating a home for one and all.

6) I look in your eyes and the spark that I see is the same one that's burning inside of me.
It's the spark that created the stars that shine and the seas and the plants and this Earth of mine.

The following songs and chants are by Mary Ellen Hill.

WE ARE STARS!

The stars fly high, they sparkle in the sky.
We are stars, let me tell you why.

Out of the heart's of stars for billions of years,
came all the elements for you, my dear.

Calcium and boron, magnesium and zinc,
every little atom that you can think.

Carbon and oxygen and mercury, too.
Everything that makes up me and you!

We are stars! We laugh and cry and sing.
We are stars! We can do most anything.

We are stars! We read and play and run.
We are stars! We know how to have fun.

Circles

We are all made of circle, all connected and unique.
All creation is a circle, unfolding and complete.

Honor the Moon

I honor the moon in you. I honor the moon in me,
I honor the bright sun and all the stars.
For they are in you, and they are in me,
and we are one, it's true.

Surrender

I surrender to and I trust, the (wisdom, truth, power, universe, love...) within me.

We Are One

Earth, Water, Fire and Air,
We are one, we are one.
Earth, Fire, Water and Air,
We are one with you.

Winter Holiday Song

Chorus:
Winter Solstice, Hanukkah and Christmas, Kwanza and New Years, too.
These are the holidays that we celebrate, won't you join us, too?

Dust the menorah, decorate the tree, light the kinara, too.
These are the ways that we celebrate the holidays, come and join the fun!

Chorus:
Presents to give and presents to give, time to show you care.
These are the ways that we celebrate the holidays, come and join the fun!

Chorus:
Potato latkes, cookies and candy canes, lots of good food to share.
These are the ways that we celebrate the holidays, come and join the fun!

Celebrate Your Birthday!

Your life is so special, so precious and so great.
Everyone is happy they can celebrate!

Today is ________'s birthday, birthdays can be fun.
It's time to celebrate all the living you have done.
You were born so tiny and now you are so big.
Think of all the wonderful things you did that...

Make your life so special , so precious and so great.
Everyone is happy they can celebrate!

The Universe was waiting for someone just like you.
"Cause you're the only one that can do what you do.
The day that you were born was a miracle indeed.
May love surround you always, may you get what you need.

Your life is so precious, so special and so great.
Everyone is happy they can celebrate!

The Princess and The Pea Song

The pea, the pea, is how they all found out.
That she, that she, was real beyond a doubt.
Oh the pea , the pea , the pea!

The pea, the pea, is why the prince and she
Are wed and happy, as happy as can be.
Oh the pea, the pea , the pea!
